Director of Facilities

Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, the Director of Facilities will be accountable for the oversight and support of critical and non-critical equipment and systems in our Lexington and Watertown facilities, which includes manufacturing, laboratory and office space. This successful candidate will be responsible for making crucial decisions based on knowledge of manufacturing and facility equipment and systems.

Major Responsibilities

  • Leads the Facilities function, including coordinating all facility activities leveraging internal and external resources.
  • Develops and articulates strategic vision for facilities to support company goals and growth, working closely with the manufacturing and engineering groups.
  • Oversees the planning, organization, and direction of facility services in conjunction with business growth, capital requirements, space allocation, etc.
  • Leads risk management activities such as failure analysis and trouble shooting
  • Applies engineering expertise to support the evaluation and trouble-shooting the performance of critical infrastructure systems and equipment.
  • Develops and oversees financial management including budget, salary, and capital projections.
  • Analyzes expenses and operations, negotiates, and implements cost effective alternatives to promote quality improvements.
  • Evaluates existing and emerging equipment and develops proposals for the upgrade or replacement of existing systems.
  • Manages preventative maintenance, capex, and maintenance budget for facility.
  • Work closely with service vendors and equipment owners to conduct full range of equipment and facility acquisition, maintenance, commissioning, validation, preventative maintenance, and modifications
  • Coordinating site activities with landlords’ facilities representatives as necessary, including maintenance and adjustments to building management systems and HVAC equipment.
  • Develop monitor and enforce maintenance system requirements, including alarm systems and safety with all service providers
  • Manages building systems to ensure optimal operations and performance while supporting and responding to building related disruptions.
  • Builds and maintains productive internal (QA/RQ/Mfg) and external (vendor) work relationships to optimize operations; oversees compliance with government and agency regulations.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for all MEP projects and systems.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for all building related activities

Background & Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 12+ years of progressive facilities engineering experience with mechanical, laboratory and manufacturing, and 5+ years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated facilities engineering experience in biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Experience with building alarm systems and computerized asset management
  • Familiar with Standard Operating Procedures, document control, deviations, Corrective and Preventative Actions
  • Experience with calibration and metrology programs
  • Familiar with cGMP requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing (including ISO 8 environments) and GMP processing equipment
  • Understanding and ability to apply ASTM E2500
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment.
  • Strong project manager with the ability to manage numerous issues simultaneously
  • Self-starter with excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
