The Manufacturing Engineer will plan, coordinate, and facilitate manufacturing process improvements, including Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Kanban and 5S events by performing the following duties:
- Assess and identify protentional manufacturing equipment purchases, including completing justification analyses, specifying, and sourcing
- Assist manufacturing department supervisors with equipment maintenance programs, equipment repair, and inspection programs
- Identify opportunities to improve cost of material by reducing scrap, outsourcing, insourcing, or substituting material type
- Identify opportunities for reductions in labor hours in fabrication, welding, paint, structural assembly, and electrical assembly departments
- Lead efforts to implement solutions to manufacturing related quality issues that require manufacturing process changes, new methods, or equipment
- Design new work flows and processes including shop floor layout, material handling methods, and work instructions
- Assists in prioritizing manufacturing related continuous improvement projects
- Reports progress on projects in process and completes follow-up/audit results of completed projects
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, 3 years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in a manufacturing environment including welding, metal fabrication, paint, and assembly operations is preferred
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles and has participated in implementation initiatives
- Strong problem solving, planning and advanced organizational skills is required
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to interface at all levels
- Ability to be organized, focused, and results-oriented with the ability to work on multiple parallel projects
